For the first time in five years, the Woodland Park Panther girls basketball team is returning for another season with a familiar face on the sidelines.

Woodland Park may have graduated its only state qualifier from a year ago in Rhys Ackart, but the Panthers are returning three grapplers who just missed a trip to state, and are eager to get there this year.

After beginning the 2008-09 season at 4-3, the Panther boys basketball team dropped their final 16 contests of the year.

It was an impossible task to choose just one female athlete of the fall, as Woodland Park volleyball teammates Tessie Koziol and Kira Roberts were so similar from both a statistical, and leadership perspective — and so complimentary to one another — that one simply wouldn’t have been half the player that she was without the other one beside her.

Woodland Park continues to crank out the hockey talent. And from Air Force junior Sean Bertsch down to Colorado Springs Christian School at Woodland Park seventh-grader Jeremy Hamerquist there seems to be no shortage of it.
