Paintings portray lush landscapes

The Garage Gallery, 5784 S. Rapp St., downtown Littleton, will debut a collection of new paintings by principals Susan Rommel, Barb Simasko, Don Simasko and guest artist, Russian impressionist Lyudmila Agrich, opening with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on First Friday, Dec. 4 and continuing through Dec. 23. Rommel specializes in luminous impressionistic landscapes, while Barb Simasko’s work explores abstract landscapes. Don Simasko’s rural and urban landscapes include European scenes. Agrich creates florals, street scenes and landscapes using bold texture. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and “by chance or appointment.” 303-703-4080.

Littleton’s Annual Candlelight Walk will be held Nov. 27, in historic downtown Littleton. Gather for cider and carols starting at 5:30 p.m. Santa arrives at the courthouse and travels west on Main Street, starting at 6:30 p.m. to turn on Littleton’s holiday lights and Christmas tree. Many shops and restaurants will be open. Reminder: Bradford Auto Body at 2659 W. Main St. is collecting new and gently used toys, games, books for the Arapahoe Santa Claus Shop (www.arapahoesantashop.org).

Littleton Dance Academy will bring the tale of Clara and her “Nutcracker” to the stage at Colorado Heights (formerly Teikyo Loretto Heights) University on Dec. 5 and 6, 3001 S. Federal Blvd., Denver. “Mozart Musicale” will be presented by Englewood Arts at 2 p.m. Nov. 29 at Hampden Hall, featuring the Up Close and Musical Ensemble, directed by Eric Bertoluzzi and guest soloists from the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Although he claimed to dislike the flute, Mozart composed three quartets for flute and strings, part of a commission from Ferdinand de Jean, a Dutch East India official— and flute player. Quartet for flute, violin, viola and cello No. 1 in D Major, K 285 heads the program. Also listed: Quartet for oboe, violin, viola and cello, K 370, written in early 1781 (Mozart was 24) and Symphony No. 35 “Haffner,” written in 1782 for the Haffner family of Salzburg. Catherine Peterson, Flute and Monica Hanulik, oboe, will perform. Hampden Hall is on the second floor of the Englewood CivicCenter, 1000 Englewood Parkway. Tickets are general admission: $15/$12/$5. Arapahoe Community College Clay and Jewelry Club Sale from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 will be in a new location: the Colorado Gallery of the Arts, in the Annex at the east side of the main Building, 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton. This show offers work by students and instructors and is a great spot for holiday shopping for original art at modest prices.

The Colorado Symphony Guild, which has an active south area chapter, kicks off its 75th Anniversary year with ”Lunch and Laughter” 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at Pinehurst Country Club. The laughter element will be supplied by the Colorado Opera Madrigal Singers in an “Opera Debacle” performance. Celtic Yuletide Celebrations 2009 is the latest production of a music, dance, story set in a medieval Irish manor, with carolers, mummers and early music, produced by John Gerlick of Act Englewood. Parker photographer Irma Backelant has work in a by-invitation exhibit called “Transcend,” presented by the Cherry Creek Chamber and Erika Mastny at the Elliot Street Collective, 2469 Elliot St., Denver. Staff members Connie Wagner and Lila Downing at Englewood High School have organized a Holiday Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 28, with proceeds slated to help the school’s special needs students in the wake of recent budget cuts.
