Library announces software update

Published: 11.03.09
Four libraries will be upgrading from their current library online library catalog software to new, easier-to-use, software in the Elbert County Library District. This change will be implemented on Dec. 1.

TLC (The Library Corporation) will provide Library.Solution, a integrated library system designed specifically for small to medium-sized libraries. This new system will enable district staff to manage the entire automated process from ordering books and other library materials to cataloging to placing books on the shelf. Patrons will find that managing their accounts will be easier too, from locating a book to placing holds and speeding up the check out process.

Library.Solution includes an updated Web site. On Dec. 1, library users will be able to log in and write their own book reviews and discover what everyone else thinks about the new titles available. They will be introduced to the “Book River,” a scrolling, computerized display of titles available throughout the District, as well as online news feeds and best seller and book award lists to assist in selection.

Patrons will have the option to track what they have checked out by asking a staff member to turn on their loan history. They will be able to access their account from home by using the library card number and PIN. In the current system, borrowers can keep a list of books they are interested in checking out and renew the books they have checked out, this service will still be available.

All four branch libraries in the Elbert County Library District will, for the first time, share the same online catalog. Patrons will be able to search all locations at the same time.

The district is making a commitment to using the latest technology to improve the library experience in our communities and allowing staff to focus more time on customer service.

For more information, contact your local branch library, or visit the district’s Web site at www.elbertcountylibrary.org.
