The Rangers lost for the first time in nine outings on the pitch when Lewis-Palmer hosted Cherry Creek (12-2-1) on Oct. 20, falling 3-1 in a non-league affair.

On the same night, Cheyenne Mountain— who LP tied, 0-0, the previous week— topped Castle View, leaving both the Rangers and Indians as co-champions, tied at 7-0-1 in the final 4A Metro League standings.

LP (9-4-2) then closed out its regular season Oct. 22 at Liberty (11-3-1) with yet another scoreless tie.

LP enters the postseason as a No. 9 seed in 4A and will host No. 24 Pueblo South at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 27. IF the Rangers win they will either travel to No. 8 Fossil Ridge or host No. 25 Skyview on Oct. 29 in the round of 16, pending the outcome of the Fossil Ridge/Skyview game.

“We came out and weren’t ready to go,” said head coach Nick Odil, who used the game as a teaching tool for a team about to experience the playoffs for the first time.

“I told the guys that is a great game for us to have before the playoffs, to let us know that we need to show up for every game and play our best or any team can beat us.”
