Kids and Families

Nov. 13

All Ages Chess Club. Bring a friend, or meet a new opponent. For experts and beginners, all ages welcome. Security guard Tony is here to help with rules and game play. From 4-5 p.m. Nov. 13.


Nov. 18

Snuggle Up. A special family storytime suggested for children 3 and older at 7 p.m. Nov. 18. Parents are encouraged to attend and participate, and children are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas and bring a favorite cuddly toy. A craft will be offered after the storytime.

Nov. 21

Where the Wild Things Are. Join us for a “Wild Rumpus” at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 21. We’ll start by reading “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak, then we’ll make masks and other crafts. Participate in a reader’s theater, and bring a non-perishable food item to donate.

Tweens/Teens

Nov. 14

National Gaming Day. Rock out with your friends and join us for a Guitar Hero challenge. We have all of the equipment, and the winners get a prize! Space is limited. Register online or by phone. Registration opens Nov. 1. At 1 p.m. Nov. 14 for ages 9-12, and at 3 p.m. for ages 13-18.

Nov. 20

Read It Before You See It. Join us for a program about “A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens and a chance to win a free movie ticket. Registration is required; call or register at the library. From 4-5 p.m. Nov. 20.

Teens

Nov. 11

Pocket Size Fleece Hand Warmers. Make fleece hand warmers. Make them funky, make them beautiful, make them warm. Choose from soft and colorful fleece, and make some for yourself or for a gift. We'll provide materials. From 3:30-5 p.m. Nov. 11.

Adults

Nov. 12

Making a List and Checking it Twice. Cari Pemberton, certified organizer, will share her tips on how to get ready for the holidays, stress free, at 1 p.m. Nov. 12.

Tuesdays

Storytime. Stories and more for children age 3 and older. Check the branch for storytime themes. At 10 and 11 a.m. Tuesdays.

Wednesdays

Paws to Read. Let your child practice reading and build fluency by reading to a Paws to Read dog. No registration required. From 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Thursdays

Toddler Time. This program gives an introduction to the delights of rhyme, rhythm, and a few special stories as a first step to reading for 1- and 2-year-old children and caregivers. The program lasts approximately 20 minutes. At 9:40 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursdays. (Doors open at 9:30 a.m. for Toddler Time participants only.)

Book Clubs

New members are welcome and no registration is required at the monthly book clubs. Book groups meet for about one hour.

Page Turners Book Club. “Doctor at Timberline,” by Charles Fox Gardner, at 7 p.m. Nov. 10.

Briargate Book Club. “Animal, Vegetable, Miracle,” by Barbara Kingsolver, at 10 a.m. Nov. 11.

The Yarnettes. Bring your crochet or knitting needles and some yarn and have fun with fellow crafters at 10 a.m. Nov. 13 and Nov. 27.

Special Programs

Nov. 11

Pillar Players Present My Favorite Husband. Remember the days of radio entertainment? This is your opportunity to “watch” the radio show! Laugh as the Pillar Players reenact this hilarious performance using all the typical sound effects from times gone by. Light lunch will be served. From noon to 1 p.m. Nov. 11.

Nov. 13

New Moon Party. Invite friends from either the werewolf or the vampire clans to celebrate the release of the second movie in the Twilight series: New Moon. The library will be open for teens in grades 7-10 only. Win tickets to the new movie with contests in Twilight Trivia and Werewolf Howling, or through the raffle for dressing up as a Cullen, a werewolf, or as a guest at Bella’s prom. Expect plenty of music, food, and the ever-present fog from Forks. From 6:30-9:30 p.m. Nov. 13.

Nov. 13

Basic Internet Genealogy. Learn more about accessing the many free genealogy websites the library links you to. From 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 13.

Nov. 14

Tarantulas and Other Creepy Crawlies! Meet amazing arachnids, millipedes, scorpions, and more! Tarantula wrangler Rowen Monks is back with an assortment of wild insects. At 1:30 p.m. Nov. 14.

Nov. 18

Read It Before You See It – Fantastic Mr. Fox. Join us for fun discussion, an activity, popcorn, and a drawing for a free movie ticket to go see the movie (must be present to win). For ages 7-12. Registration is required, call or drop by to register. From 4:15-5:15 p.m Nov. 18.

Nov. 21

AARP Mature Safe Driving Program. A driver refresher course specially designed for motorists age 50 and older. Graduates may present their course completion certificate to their insurance agents for a discount. Charge for the eight-hour course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Class size is limited and registration is required. (Participants must attend both days). From 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

Nov. 20

Book Group: Monumental Readers. New members are welcome and no registration is required at the monthly book club. This month’s selection is Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. At 10 a.m. Nov. 20.

Nov. 25

History Buffs. Every month this group picks a period of history and members read any book of their choice from that time period. Expect a lively discussion about the era. At 1 p.m. Nov. 25.

Mondays

TALK English! Join this informal conversation circles for adults who want to improve their skill and comfort speaking English. No registration is required. At 7 p.m. Mondays.

Mondays, Wednesdays

Paws to Read. Let your child practice reading and build fluency by reading to a Paws to Read dog. No registration required. From 4:30-5:30 p.m. Mondays, and from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Bob Gildorf will help you make a tissue-launching crossbow and introduce you to some other simple, fun, and very silly wooden toys from his new book, Zany Wooden Toys that Whiz, Spin, Pop, and Fly. Best for ages 6 and older. At 10:30 a.m. Nov. 21.
