E-mail newsletter story distasteful
I just received a “satirical” e-mail, The Littleton Leek, subheaded “Information for Littleton Citizens,” dated October 2009.
While I appreciate political humor as much as the next person, I find this issue extremely distasteful and possibly slanderous in its treatment of council candidate Travis Nicks. The first story suggests that Mr. Nicks will open “Pot 4 Tots,” a head shop catering to children.
In full disclosure, I have known Mr. Nicks personally for several years, and consider him a friend, although I am far from agreeing with some of his political ideas. I believe that I know him well enough to know that he would not support the idea of illegal drugs being given to minors. What makes this story in even worse taste is that Mr. Nicks and his wife are currently expecting their first child.
I do not know who is behind The Littleton Leek, as it contains no by-lines or other information which would tell me. And I do not find every story in it offensive — most of the other stories pick at well-known traits of the candidates. I believe that this story is clearly beyond the pale and has been put forward by people too cowardly to claim authorship.
I call upon the City of Littleton Election Commission to look into this piece of outrageous “humor.”
