Wiens joins U.S. Senate race
Former state Sen. Tom Wiens, of Douglas County, has announced he is running for the U.S. Senate.
Wiens, a rancher and small businessman, joins a field of Republican challengers to Democratic incumbent Michael Bennet.
Wiens plans to conduct formal announcement events in several locations throughout the state in the coming weeks.
"Weeks ago I created an exploratory committee so that I could start a conversation with Coloradans about my frustrations with Washington,” Wiens said in a news release. “What did I learn? They are, like me, sick and tired of the disrespect that Washington has for us.”
Former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton, of Arapahoe County, also is among the Republican hopefuls.
Andrew Romanoff, the former speaker of the state House, is a Democratic challenger.
