Not even close — county elections show wide margins

The Nov. 3 countywide election had a two of important questions to answer and two councils and one school board to fill.

Voters denied a tax increase and changed the way a school district chooses its board members.

Voters in Park County RE-2 School District also had a ballot question to decide.

Voters denied Florissant Fire Protection District’s Referred Ballot Issue 5A a vote of 342 to 624. The issue would have increased the district’ s mill levy to fund the replacement essential equipment and continue operations.

In contrast, Woodland Park School District RE-2’s Ballot Question 3A, which did not involve taxes, passed by a vote of 1,506 to 763. The issue allows the district to tie three of its school board directors to the boundaries of its three elementary schools with the other two directors chosen at large.

Also in RE-2, incumbent Rick Wetzel, was chosen over challenger Mark Rodholm for Director District B by a vote of 1,028 to 835. Amy Nieman ran unopposed in Director District D and Bill Blackburn ran as a write-in candidate for Director District E, also unopposed.

Cripple Creek City Council has two new members. Milford Ashworth, running unopposed, will represent Ward 4, replacing term-limited Sandra DiCamillo. In Ward 5 Steven R. Zoellner beat R.D. “Taz” Blevins by a vote of 82 to 34. Zoellner replaces Lois Woods, who also was term limited.

In Victor, Byron “Buck” Hakes, running unopposed will become the city’s new mayor. Sandy Honeycutt was the winner of a three-way race for city clerk. She won with 77 votes to Pam Pratt’s 40 and Keith Flikkema’s 46 votes.

In Victor Ward 1 Diana Bowman won with 68 votes to Marshall Winblood’s 22 votes. She replaces Don Daniel. Ward 2 voters chose Michael J. Wallace over Jon Strevor by a vote of 54 to 16. Wallace replaces Mayor Pro Tem Rick May.

With most of its votes tallied as of 11 p.m. Nov. 3 Park County RE-2’s ballot issue that will provide funding for a new charter school building in the Lake George area was passing by a wide margin.
