Teller Trekkers season ends with lunch, new plans
By Norma Engelberg
Teller Trekkers recently had their annual combination end-of-season-potluck / next-season-planning meeting at the Ute Pass Cultural Center. The last hike of the season, a trip to the Tarryall area, was postponed because of snow but already plans are being made for next summer’s hikes.
Trail leader Michael “Rip” Blaisdell, who already has 12 hikes on his list for next season, asked if anyone would like to volunteer to lead a few hikes. The season runs May through September with hikes in October to be decided according to the weather.
Blaisdell also thanked volunteer hike leaders Sheila Steele, Jean Blaisdell, Kent Drummond and Peter Gilfoil for their help during the 2009 season.
A new program will be introduced next season. As the group spreads out into new areas, the hikes have been getting tougher and some members were longing for the days when the group was taking some of the easier hikes. Those days will return with the help of the Woodland Park Harvest Center Wellness Group.
According to information given to Blaisdell by Lee Willoughby of the Harvest Center, two leaders, Nancy Remmler and Marcia Thompson, have volunteered to lead easier, shorter hikes on weekends next summer.
