Counties invite residents to energy conference

Wind energy, carbon financial credits and home energy windbreaks will be the topics of discussion and exploration at the Alternative Energy Conference hosted by Arapahoe and Douglas counties, the CSU Extension Offices and the Douglas County Soil Conservation District.
The conference will take place Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Douglas County Events Center, 500 Fairgrounds Road in Castle Rock.
Keynote speakers will include Colorado Department of Agriculture Commissioner John Stulp, who will discuss wind development for farmers and ranchers..
Mike Kostrzewa, senior research associate at the Colorado State University Department of Mechanical Engineering, will speak about wind energy.
Dan Pauley, with CSU Extension in Jefferson County, will address the financial benefits of carbon credits.
The Douglas County Soil Conservation District will display an exhibit on home energy windbreaks, which reduce the force of the wind on a home’s exterior surfaces and the amount of cold air that enters the structure.
The cost for the program is $20 per person and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. The deadline to register is Nov. 9. Breakfast and registration on the day of the event is 8 to 8:45 a.m. The conference speakers will begin at 9 a.m., and lunch at noon will conclude the program.
