Fewer than 600 positions remain on the volunteers roster for the 71st Senior PGA Championship at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, May 25-30, 2010.

The PGA announced Oct. 27 that more than 1,000 volunteers from 16 states have committed their support to the event.

“Volunteers are integral to the success of any Championship,” said Jeromy Manser, championship director of the 71st Senior PGA Championship. “To pass the 1,000 mark more than seven months in advance of the championship is a great achievement. We have volunteers from as far away as Alaska to Florida, and we’re getting excited to showcase Colorado Golf Club and welcome everyone’s support next May. The remaining spots will fill quickly, so interested individuals should register as soon as possible to reserve a volunteer position.”

Volunteers at the event will enjoy the unique opportunity to be a part of the most celebrated Major Championship in senior professional golf. Committees include, but are not limited to admissions, contestant evacuation, contestant transportation, corporate hospitality services, distribution, leaderboards and thruboards, marshals, media center registration, spectator services and volunteer services.

The Volunteer Fee of $120 includes a uniform (golf shirt, wind jacket and headwear option), a copy of the Senior PGA Championship official journal, a lanyard, food and beverage vouchers, a merchandise discount, complimentary parking with shuttle service, and a volunteer credential allowing access to the grounds and volunteer headquarters all six days of the championship. To register visit www.SeniorPGA2010.com.

Junior Volunteer Opportunities

Juniors (13-17 years of age) and Students (18-22 years of age) are eligible for a select number of volunteer positions at the 71st Senior PGA Championship. Junior and student committees include leaderboards and thruboards, standard bearers and card copy. Participants will receive a free uniform shirt and hat or visor in addition to complimentary parking and shuttle service, and a volunteer credential allowing access to the grounds and volunteer headquarters all six days of the championship.

“For juniors and students, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Manser said. “Not only do they get to work with some of the game’s biggest names, but they will gain a real sense of responsibility and teamwork by becoming part of such a significant event in the community and state.”

About the Senior PGA Championship

Begun in 1937, the Senior PGA Championship is the oldest and most prestigious major championship in senior golf. It was born on the grounds of another of golf’s majors at the invitation of one of the game’s greatest players. At the suggestion of renowned amateur Bobby Jones, the inaugural Senior PGA Championship was conducted at Augusta National Golf Club three years after the first Masters tournament.

Today, the Senior PGA Championship brings together both the legends of the game and newest members of senior professional golf to new audiences throughout the United States.

Many of the game’s greatest players have won the Championship’s Alfred S. Bourne Trophy — a roster that features Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Jack Nicklaus, Raymond Floyd, Hale Irwin, Tom Watson and Jay Haas.
