Paper picked wrong candidates to endorse
I was sad to see your school board endorsements in the recent issue of the paper. It made me wonder if you did any research on the candidates or if you just pulled some names out of a hat.
At least you got two endorsements right. Leung and Hansen are both dedicated and knowledgeable with years of previous volunteer service to the schools.
I am sorry CCN, you missed the boat with your endorsement of Carson and Silverthorn.
All the candidates are proponents of parental choice but only a few candidates understand the budget crisis and have shown dedication to the district.
Sue Catterall worked hard to get funding for our schools on two bond and budget elections and helped build a coalition of Democrats, Republicans and Independents that volunteered on those campaigns. She has a history of leadership and volunteerism in the district. Emily Hansen has been an active volunteer for many years with a history of doing what is best for public education and our children. She has been a leader on the school board finding common ground between diverse interests.
What we need as a community is to have a serious discussion about what we want our district to be. We need to talk about the coexistence of charter schools and neighborhood schools, about transparency and about how to fund our schools. We cannot do this unless we elect the most knowledgeable and dedicated candidates.
The school board election will have lasting impact. Hopefully, your uninformed endorsement will be ignored and not bring harm to our great district.
