Eastridge park gets new moniker
By Robyn Lydick
Quickly, your child needs to be at Eastridge Park in 20 minutes. How do you get there?
If you drove to University Drive and Teal Ridge, your child will miss the party.
The park behind Eastridge recreation center is Falcon Park.
Eastridge Park is nestled in a residential enclave close to Lone Tree in the far northeast section of Highlands Ranch.
Featuring a playground, basketball court, picnic table and a sport field, Eastridge Park also has stanzas from “Casey at the Bat” worked into a concrete path encircling the playing field.
When confusion drove Metro District directors to change the name of the park, Casey was a consideration, even though no baseball is played there. Other names under consideration included Renner, and Eastridge. The winner was Timberline Park, sensibly named after the road alongside it.
Renner is a reference to Phillip Renner, an owner and manager of Big Dry Creek Cheese Ranch. Renner later sold the property to the other major rancher and it was folded into what became Highland (no “s”) Ranch.
Fifty-eight percent of survey respondents chose Timberline as the park’s new name.
Respondents indicated a need for restroom and a picnic shelter at Timberline Park. Those improvements are planned for 2010.
Signs reflecting the new name will be installed Nov. 5.
