Elizabeth rolls past Englewood
Englewood coach Matt Bednorz said he saw a lot of effort, pride, determination and a number of good things happen on the field Oct. 30 despite the fact the Pirates lost to Elizabeth 52-21.
It was a see-saw battle early but, midway through the first period, the Cardinals exploded for a touchdown and a field goal to go on top to stay.
One bright spot was the 71-yard touchdown run by senior Mike Tolle. Tolle is playing running back for the first time this season and said it was a great feeling to break into the open and run for a touchdown. The fact it was against rival Elizabeth made it even better. Tolle also has a fumble recovery.
Senior quarterback Jacob Lowder also reached a career milestone as he completed 12 of 27 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns to put him over 1,000 yards for the season.
Junior Chris Nunnelly also had a big night as a receiver as he caught six passes for 153 yards and a touchdown.
