Time spent at schools could be beneficial

After years and years of volunteering in the Elizabeth C-1 school district, one woman hopes to utilize her experience in her new position on the Elizabeth school board.
Cindy Miller has lived in Elbert County since 1996. Three of her children have already graduated from Elizabeth High School and two are soon to follow.
Miller has volunteered at the elementary, middle school and high school levels as well as at the district level. Miller hopes her basic knowledge of the district will be beneficial on the board.
“Because of my experience I hope the learning curve will be a little faster,” she said.
Although Miller already knows a lot about the district, there are many things she needs to learn and she is enthusiastic about the new education.
“I am excited about getting to know the district even better,” she said. “There are some gaps I need to get filled.”
Many of Miller’s children are special needs and she feels her experience with her children will also be beneficial to the board She said she can bring a personal outlook regarding special needs children to the board, which she feels is a strength.
“Children with special needs is an area that not everyone has an intimate experience with like I do,” she said.
Overall Miller is ready to take on her new position. She is happy the Nov. 5 school board meeting is just around the corner. She is ready to be sworn in and begin an even closer relationship to the Elizabeth school district.
“I just want to do the right things for the kids and encourage them to help them grow and become the people they foresee themselves.”
