The Classical Academy, Pine Creek and Lewis-Palmer all had something in common this Halloween.
They all scared the heck out of the competition at their respective volleyball districts.
All three schools went unbeaten en route to winning district titles, and only Pine Creek (20-3) had the luxury of playing at home.
Of course, that was an earned right too, as the Eagles, who didn’t drop a single game in their four wins at districts, entered the 5A tourney as the overall No. 4 seed, meaning they will now get to host the regional tournament on Nov. 7 as well.
Because of a previously scheduled craft fair, however, the team is going to have to call Rampart's gym home for the day.
According to head coach Ashlynn Smith, though, if they play the way they did at districts the Eagles should have no trouble qualifying for state.
“If we play our game and do what we did today, and stay working as a team we should do pretty well,” she said. “Right now we can battle with anybody.”
Of the four teams the Eagles faced in districts, only Loveland— Creek’s second opponent— managed to get into the 20s twice on them.
And Creek’s response? They held their next opponent, Pomona, to five points in game one of the crossover match.
“Everybody stepped up and played very well,” Smith said. “It wasn’t just one person, and that’s something I’ve really been working on with them.”
Joining Pine Creek in the regional will be No. 5 Cherry Creek (18-5), No 12 Fort Collins (17-6) and No. 4 Lakewood (16-7). The Eagles, winners of 13 straight, have not seen any of their regional opponents this season. The top two teams will advance to state.
Lewis-Palmer
The Rangers (19-4) made it 12 wins in 13 matches after sweeping through Canon City, Mesa Ridge, Mitchell and Pueblo West Oct. 31 at the 4A district in Pueblo.
Only Mesa Ridge (18-4) picked up a game on them as LP shut everyone else out and twice held their opponent to seven points, doing it to both Canon and Mitchell.
The Rangers will head to Longmont on Nov. 7 for regional action. After the reseeding LP comes in as the No. 5 overall seed, while Longmont (17-6) is No. 4. Joining the two schools there will be No. 12 Sterling (14-9) and No. 13 Montrose (18-5). LP is yet to face any of its regional opponents this year. The top two teams from the regional will advance to state.

The Titans (18-4) lost their first game of the 3A district Oct. 31 at Roaring Fork, falling to Olathe 25-23.
From that point forward they didn’t lose again, taking care of Olathe 25-13, 25-8, 25-14 and then sweeping Salida and Roaring Fork (20-2) to win the district.
Freshman Claire Felix and sophomore Katie Reininger each had 12 kills in the 25-14, 29-27, 25-16 district championship over the host team.
The regional seeding for 3A will take place on Nov. 3.
