Woodmoor is working to do what it can to help others in the community.
“Project Woodmoor Can” was started by the Woodmoor Improvement Association Events Committee as part of an effort to develop a better sense of community within Woodmoor.
The committee asked residents to drop off cans when they came to events, said chairwoman Hilary Brendemuhl. The community responded by bringing canned goods with them to Woodmoor’s summer and fall festivals.
“As we’re building a better awareness, the project is growing,” she said.
Woodmoor recently gave a load of cans to Tri-Lakes Cares. The King Soopers off Baptist Road donated a grocery cart for the events committee to use for the project that is in The Barn at all times, Brendemuhl said.
“It’s a healthy thing for us as a community to help those who could use some help,” she said. She said while everyone has been affected by the economic slump, it is important for the community to remember those who are most affected by it.
The nonperishable foods collection is not the only effort the committee is working on with Tri-Lakes Cares. During the Woodmoor Ring in the Holidays event from 2-5 p.m. Dec. 6, Woodmoor homeowners and their families will have the opportunity to help others, talk to Santa, listen to music, drink hot chocolate and cider, carol and watch a tree lighting ceremony. At the event, participants can work with Tri-Lakes Cares to adopt a family or pick ornaments off a tree to bring gifts to brighten community children’s Christmas experiences.
“We’re trying to provide a fun opportunity for our residents,” Brendemuhl said. “It’s also an opportunity to give back to the community in which we live.”
