Black Forest AARP recognized for work
Black Forest residents and their supporters were recognized Oct. 23 at the Colorado State AARP Volunteer Recognition Brunch in Littleton. Colorado State President Jim Dolbier announced that the Black Forest AARP Chapter 1100 had been selected as the most outstanding AARP chapter in Colorado in 2009.
This chapter was cited for outstanding community service, programs, administration, and overall chapter activities. The chapter was awarded the Colorado AARP Chapter Cup trophy and given a check for $250. Chapter president Don Von Gunden accepted the awards on behalf the chapter. This is the sixth year in a row that the Black Forest Chapter has been recognized as one of the top four AARP Chapters in Colorado.
Judy von Ahlefeldt, owner and editor of the Black Forest News and Palmer Divide Pioneer, was presented with the 2009 Colorado AARP Business Award. This award was one of the very few individual awards that are presented annually to organizations that excelled in their support of activities important to their communities.
Other statewide individual awards were presented for community services such as Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Community Outreach, and work in the AARP Tax-Aide, and Driver Safety Programs. One such award was presented to Stan Beckner, the first vice president of the Black Forest AARP Chapter, who was recognized as the AARP Foundation ElderWatch Volunteer of the Year.
Black Forest AARP Chapter membership is open to persons of all ages. Persons interested in creating good in the community can contact Don at 719-495-3651 or Catherine at 719-488-3152 for chapter membership information.
