Huff leads Castle Pines North mayoral race
By Chris Michlewicz
More than 2,000 votes have been counted, and Castle Pines North mayoral candidate Jeffrey Huff holds a slight lead over incumbent Maureen Shul in early, unofficial results Tuesday night.
Huff had notched 1,148 votes to Shul’s 967.
“Assuming the lead holds, I’m looking forward to working with new and returning council members,” said Huff, who was with supporters at La Dolce Vita in Castle Pines North. “Our volunteers did a great job and the voters responded to our message.”
Huff was confident that he would maintain the lead, and sounded positive about how the night might shake out.
“The difference is wide enough that I would be surprised if it tightened up,” he said.
Shul did not immediately return a voicemail message seeking comment about the initial results.
More than 38,000 mail-in votes have been tallied countywide so far, equaling about 20 percent of registered voters within Douglas County.
The council races for the city’s second and third ward show a wide lead for Kim Hoffman, Shelley Hamilton-Bruer, Doug Gilbert and John Ewing. However, not all of the votes have been counted yet.
The uncontested race for Ward 1 in Castle Pines North has seated Jennifer Havercroft and Darwin Horan on the city council, while Mark Shively nabbed the uncontested treasurer’s position.
Approximately 22 percent of the votes countywide have been counted so far.
