Meet teachers, stop by book fair

Parent/teacher conferences will take place Oct. 29. Your child's teacher will contact you to set up a time. If you are not able to come in on conference day, don't worry; the teacher will be glad to meet with you at a more convenient time.
We want to make the most of this opportunity to share information with you and we strive for 100 percent of our students represented by an adult for conferences. Thanks for your help with making this day successful.
Please plan to stop by the book fair when you come in for conferences. The book fair will be set up in one of the fourth-grade classrooms from Oct. 28 until Nov. 11. There will be no school for elementary students on Oct. 29.
Thank you for your help with keeping our students healthy. There has been concern locally, throughout the state and all over the country regarding the H1N1 flu virus.
We have had very few if any cases at the elementary, and we are following the guidelines of the CDC and our local health department. Our students use hand sanitizer before and after lunch, we disinfect classrooms and commonly used areas each day, and we send kids home if they have a fever.
These strategies have helped us out so far. You may have heard about the symptoms of the flu. They include a high fever (above 100 degrees for three to four days), aches and pains, headache, and sore throat. The onset of flu symptoms is fast, often only three to six hours.
The health department advises that you keep your children home, not only from school but also from other public places, if they have symptoms. Students are welcome back at school after their fever is gone, without medication, for 24 hours.
If you would like more information, look at www.flu.gov or www.TellerCountyPublicHealth.gov. Remember we have a physician assistant here at our school based health center on Mondays and Thursdays. Call 719-689-9230 to make an appointment or stop by the school office to sign up for the health center.
Please send your children to school if they are healthy. So far, our absences have not been above normal, and classes are going on as planned. When students miss school they miss a great deal of teaching and learning.
While they can make up some of the work with worksheets or assignments, they still miss out on explanations and discussions that occur in the classroom. Making up work is difficult for students so we encourage them to be here as much as possible.
We pride ourselves on great attendance at Cresson and we believe we can accomplish 95 percent or higher this year, as we have in the past.
Our first-quarter awards program will be at 3 p.m. Nov. 5. Parents and community members are encouraged to attend to show their support for our students.
Daylights Saving time ends Nov. 1. Be sure to set your clocks back one hour.

We have openings for preschool students who qualify for Head Start, Colorado Preschool Program, or Tuition. We look forward to increasing our preschool capacity, preparing our students for success in school.
