Storytelling in many styles as well as instruction on writing stories will take place through Douglas County Library programs in October. A free Storytelling Festival is scheduled Oct. 2 and 3; “An Evening With David Baldacci” takes place Oct. 8 and the Douglas County Libraries Writers Conference will be all day on Oct. 10. Celebrate the art of storytelling at a free two-day Storytelling Festival:
On Oct. 2 and 3 at Kirk Hall, Douglas County Fairgrounds. No pre-registration is required: Friday, Oct. 2 has registration starting at 9 a.m.; 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., storytelling and music concerts for school groups and families; 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Story Swap; 7 to 9 p.m. Family Variety concert with featured storytellers including:
Heather Forrest of Huntington, N.Y., who tells world folk tales in minstrel style; John Stansfield of Monument, known for ballads from the West and from the World, wilderness advocacy, history and writings.
Paul Taylor, Australia, and Laramie, Wyo., who plays a didgeridoo and has stories from the Aboriginal people in Australia’s far north.
Oct. 3 offers 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Extra Fun Early Literacy Storytime for ages 3 to 5. A Story Swap will again take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and featured storytellers will again appear in concert from 7 to 9 p.m.
Spend “An Evening With David Baldacci”
David Baldacci writes what are called “page turners” in the book trade — books that keep you up late a night to learn what happens next. “Absolute Power,” “Total Control,“ ” Split Second, and more.” He will speak about his experiences and his work at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Wildlife Experience, 10035 S. Peoria St. Cocktail reception at 6 p.m. Tickets, which benefit the Douglas County Library Foundation, cost $50 for reception and preferred seating; $25 for general admission to the talk. Held 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Castle View High School, 5254 Meadows Drive Castle Rock, with workshops, networking and activities and lunch. Tickets cost $75. For an extra $20, attend an agent pitch session. Proceeds benefit the Douglas County Library Association.
