Construction to begin on tennis/park facility
By Michele Sample
As part of a recent Parks and Recreation Master Plan and the passage of the May 2008 ballot recreation measure, the city of Lone Tree received approval from its residents to improve the tennis complex at the Lone Tree Golf Club and Hotel, at 9809 Sunningdale Blvd.
“The building permit was issued June 15 and construction should begin on June 22,” Michelle Kivela, city of Lone Tree city manager said.
The project has gone through the Master Plan phase, and received community input and Site Improvement Plan approval from the Lone Tree Planning Commission on Jan. 13.
The city will own the facility and has made an agreement with South Suburban Parks and Recreation, SSPR, to be the project manager and consultant on the design and construction. SSPR will also operate, maintain and program the tennis and park facilities.
Sue Rosser, South Suburban Parks and Recreation District board member said that residents will be able to play tennis on state-of-the-art tennis courts and children will have a state-of-the-art playground as well.
“The picnic facility will be a wonderful gathering place where families and HOA’s can have summer picnics,” Rosser said.
Saunders Construction has been contracted as the prime contractor for the project. Wenk Associates and Odell Architecture are under the direction of Saunders Construction.
