Sober up before driving

Keep hours between bottle and throttle on the July 4 weekend.

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies will be increasing patrols in likely areas for drunk drivers, said Dep. Robert Rotherham.

“We run two-man cars and concentrate on areas with alcohol-related crashes and DUI arrests,” Rotherham said. “It’s not random.”

Enforcement efforts like these net significant increases in arrests, he said.

Overtime will be covered by a law enforcement assistance fund grant.

Since LEAF’s inception in 1984, Douglas County has received $405,300 to help with DUI patrols.

“I encourage everyone to celebrate our nation’s birthday in a responsible manner,” said Sheriff Dave Weaver. “Making smart choices will make it safer and much more enjoyable for everyone on the roadways during the holiday weekend.”

Patrols will increase July 2 and go through July 6.
