The Holly Creek Retirement Community in Centennial markets itself as resort-style living.

Now with a $37.5 million state-of-the-art Alzheimer’s Memory Support Center to accommodate residents’ mental health needs, residents have access to a continuum of care and memory care all in one location — without an institutionalized approach.

“Historically, the industry hasn’t been very centered on providing residential living,” said Cindy Hogan, executive director of Holly Creek. “We’ve flipped those traditional concepts of a nursing home upside down.”

First off, no one at The Suites at Holly Creek shares living space, to allow for more privacy, according to Hogan.

Residents, particularly couples, can live in the same community without the harsh regulations of an institution.

“The Suites allow folks who might develop a need for more assistance to make one move and stay in the same community,” Hogan said. “If you want to put on your bunny slippers and go down the hall to see your spouse, you can.”

The Suites at Holly Creek contain an on-site physicians’ office, complete with three physicians and one nurse practitioner, a calming room that reduces agitation in those with Alzheimer’s or dementia, a private spa, physical and occupational therapy services, and noninvasive security monitoring.

“We’re a type of retirement community that puts all of the possible services and levels of care that a resident might need in their lifetime all on one campus — everything from independent living through assisted living all the way through skilled nursing,” Cindy Hogan said.

Owned by Denver-based Christian Living Communities, a provider of senior living and care in Denver for nearly 37 years, Holly Creek’s resort-style community now contains 262 apartment homes, a town center comprising a movie theater, gift shop, wellness complex and three restaurants.

“We’re thrilled this expansion is complete and now many more seniors can call Holly Creek home,” Hogan said. “It’s wonderful to be among the first to provide the next generation of retirement living.”

And the older population in Colorado is expected to double by 2020, according to the Colorado State Demography Office.

There are roughly 17,000 Denver area residents between the ages of 85-89, and that number is expected to increase by 31 percent by 2020. The number of residents between the ages of 65-69 — about 75,000 of them — is expected to grow to nearly 151,000 by 2020.

To accommodate Holly Creek’s retirees, whom Hogan says are a “generation of seniors who are world travelers and accustomed to resort living,” the community also features a spa, indoor-outdoor pools, library, business center, game rooms, woodworking studio, beauty salon, outdoor gardens, a fellowship room, putting green and outdoor gaming area — as well as a broad selection of activities that provide intellectual growth, physical activity and spiritual nourishment.

“The concept is one-stop shopping like a full-service resort,” Hogan said. “The children of our residents have a huge part in helping us to shape the services and the quality of services because they have high expectations and high desire for their parents to get a high level of hospitality,” she said. “Our residents are getting the cutting edge of what baby boomers will want.”

Holly Creek opened in June 2005, and serves residents 62 years or older. For more information, visit www.hollycreekretirementcommunity.com or call 303-713-9004.
