Bank robbery in Castle Rock

The Castle Rock police department, in a joint probe with the FBI, is investigating a pre-Christmas bank robbery at US Bank.

Police received a report of a robbery in progress around 5 p.m. Dec. 23 at the US Bank branch in the King Soopers on Founders Parkway.

An employee reported a white male passed a note over the counter. The note reportedly said the man had a gun and demanded money.

The employee gave the suspect a handful of cash and he left the area on foot, according to police reports.

The suspect did not display a weapon during the incident and took the note with him when he left, said Scott Claton, Castle Rock police sergeant of investigations. No one was injured during the incident.

Investigators have no reason to believe the suspect is involved in any other area robberies, Claton said.

Castle Rock is working the case with the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Street Task Force, which handles violent crimes, crimes against children and bank robberies in Colorado and Wyoming, said Kathy Wright, FBI public information officer.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 30 and 40 years old and was wearing a fake beard. Witnesses say he was dressed in a gray “hoodie” and sweat pants and was 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 250 pounds. Witnesses could not make out the man’s hair color because he pulled the hood over his head.

Agents are seeking information from any witnesses who have yet to come forward.

“Maybe someone saw him going in or going out,” Wright said. “Maybe he looked a little strange and might have caught someone’s eye.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Street Task Force at 303-629-7171.
