Community Partnership Family Resource Center is producing a new Community Resource Directory and needs help.
“We’ve sent out invitations to participate to organizations that were listed in the previous directory,” said Diana Allen, the resource center’s executive director. “They’ve sent us their information.”
“But if there is any other agencies out there that provide any kind of community service and didn’t receive an invitation, this is your last chance to respond to be included in the publication,” said Henriette Gregorio, Community Partnership health advocate.
The directory covers all of Teller County and the eastern edge of Park County — the Lake George and Guffey areas. It includes everyone from libraries and clinics to local churches and charitable organizations.
Any organization that hasn’t already sent information can send it to Allen by calling 719-687-0705 or by dropping in or writing to: Community Partnership, 11115 Hwy. 24, Suite 2D, Divide, CO 80814. Listings are free but low-cost advertising also is available. To be included in the first printing, the information must arrive by Jan. 21.
The directory should be available the first week of February at the Community Partnership office and area libraries. Eventually it also will be available online at www.communitypartnershipfamilyresourcecenter.org.
“We are self-publishing,” Gregorio said. “We can print out more copies as needed so we can make corrections and additions on the second and subsequent printings.”
Creating the resource directory is a mandate from the Community Partnership’s parent organization, Family Resource Centers Association based in Denver, and is part of the year-two health advocacy grant from the Colorado Health Foundation.
The health advocacy grant allows Gregorio to work with uninsured and underinsured individuals and families that have fallen into a medical gridlock that might include both bills and treatments.
“Sometimes people need a neutral third party to deal with miscommunications and troubleshoot, which is what I do most often,” she said. “I work with clients and service providers to find solutions to medical service issues.”
Gregorio can be reached through the Community Partnership main office number above.
Community Partnership, which offers General Educational Development classes at its Divide office, will begin offering classes at the Aspen Mine Center in Cripple Creek in February. The classes are funded by Pikes Peak Workforce Center and include diagnostic aptitude testing and free childcare. Until recently, GED students had to go to Colorado Springs to take the tests needed to graduate but now testing is offered at the Woodland Park Alternative Education building.
“The Community Partnership GED class graduated 14 students between September and the end of December last year,” Allen said.
Community Partnership also provided help to local families during the Christmas season. It received a $1,000 emergency grant from El Pomar that it used to buy clothing for 25 needy individuals ages 18 months to senior citizens in 10 households.
“We were surprised at how many requests for clothing we received,” Gregorio said. “We bought clothing, shoes, socks, underwear, coats, hats, gloves and diapers.”
The partnership also referred 15 households to Help the Needy, which also received El Pomar funding. Donations of firewood were distributed to six households in the county and a donation of a house full of furniture helped 12 families.
A $5,000 Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation grant was used to buy diapers and gasoline, and pay for utilities, medical copays and prescriptions for needy families. It also bought toys for children age 5 and younger.
“Buell grants are usually only used for children but with the economic hard times, many families are facing the grants were passed through the Family Resource Centers Association for distribution to 24 resource centers across the state,” Allen said. “We were able to help a lot of needy people last year.”
“When these cases come in, sometimes it really chokes you up,” Gregorio said.
