Business returns to Baldwin Street

After a two-year absence in Woodland Park, Tom Brunette’s Farmers’ Insurance Group has re-opened in the Southwestern-style building at 517 S. Baldwin Street. “We’re back bigger and better,” said Kristyn Johnson, formerly Cline, officer manager and insurance specialist.

In the interim, the agency continued to serve clients in the Colorado Springs office.

With the resurfacing in Woodland Park, the agency has expanded its offerings to include insurance policies on life and health. “We have a life-insurance specialist and a health specialist, in addition to offering auto, home and business policies,” Johnson said.

As of Jan. 1, Colorado drivers are mandated to have $5,000 worth of coverage for medical payments on their auto insurance, with an opt-out choice, either in writing, over the Internet or telephone, depending upon how the policy was purchased.

“If you opt out, you won’t have the protection, so we want to educate people on new state regulations, help them through the transition,” Johnson said.

The company offers discounts to firefighters, police officers, teachers and the military.

New to Farmers’ Insurance agencies nationwide is the Managing Information on Lost Kids, the MILK program.

To take advantage of the program, Farmers’ clients are invited to bring their children in to be photographed and measured, the information transferred to a disk and made available to the appropriate police department in the case of a kidnapping, for instance. “The program is designed to protect our kids before something happens,” Johnson said.
