Transportation advisory group expanding

The Regional Transportation District is seeking volunteers to serve on the FasTracks Citizens Advisory Committee.
Six volunteers are needed because the RTD board of directors recently voted to expand the committee from 11 to 17 members.
The mission of the committee is to advise RTD on matters relating to the implementation of the FasTracks Program.
FasTracks is the 12-year project to expand the metro area mass transit system. Plans were to add a total of 119 miles of light rail and commuter rail lines, enhance bus networks, transform Union Station into the metro-area transit hub, create five new Park-n-Ride facilities and improve existing transit systems and facilities. The project was scheduled to be completed by 2017.
The project proposes building a mass transit system which includes light rail lines west to Golden and north to Longmont, a commuter rail from Union Station to Denver International Airport and a rapid-transit bus corridor to Boulder. Additionally, the proposal extends the Southwest Corridor Light Rail Line to Highlands Ranch and the Southeast line to Sky Ridge Medical Center.
Applications are due by Jan. 30. To apply, the individual should include a brief statement of interest in serving on the committee, qualifications, highlights of related experience and expertise plus a resume, if available.
The one-page letter application should be submitted to Roger Sherman, RTD FasTracks Team, 1560 Broadway, Suite 650, Denver, 80202 or they can be e-mailed to roger.sherman@rtd-fastracks.com. The application can also be faxed to Sherman at 303-592-5460.
Selection criteria considered by the nominating committee will include residency within the district, a demonstrated interest in public transit and previous community service.
New members will be appointed by March 30. Two new members will serve one-year terms, two will serve two-year terms and two will serve three-year terms.
The committee meets quarterly at the RTD administrative office, 1600 Black St.
