Motorcycle crash kills Springs man

A Colorado Springs man was pronounced dead at the scene of a multiple-car crash after he and his wife were thrown from their motorcycle about 1 p.m. Dec. 28 on Colo. 83 just south of Franktown.
Jerrimy Walker, 36, and his wife, Stacy Walker, 35, were traveling northbound on Colo. 83 behind a vehicle when a the driver of a pickup in the southbound lane tried to pass the vehicle in front of him.
As the pickup passed, the northbound vehicle in front of the Walkers swerved off the right side of the road to avoid a head-on collision with the pickup.
Walker applied the rear brakes, but the motorcycle leaned to its left, high-sided and rolled onto its right side and slid into the southbound lane.
A Franktown paramedic pronounced Jerrimy Walker dead at 1:28 p.m.
Stacy Walker was flown by helicopter and admitted to the critical care unit at Penrose-St. Francis Health Services.
Ethan Elliott, a longtime family friend of the Walkers, said Stacy is in intensive care and has life-threatening head trauma injuries.
Elliott is staying at the family home with the Walkers’ children, Jacob, 9, Luke, 15 and Randi, 18, awaiting Stacy’s recovery.
Elliott said Stacy and Jerrimy were active in supporting U.S. troops and recently had participated in the Children’s Hospital Toy Run.
They rode and donated for other charities, including the Emily Keyes ride.
“Words cannot do Jerrimy justice,” Elliott said. “You’d never catch Jerrimy without a smile.”
The driver of the pickup sustained no injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol accident report said both riders were wearing helmets and eye protection, and no alcohol or drugs were suspected.
Jerrimy Walker’s attempt to stop his motorcycle left a skid mark measuring 100 feet, police said.
Friends of the Walkers have set up a PayPal account, mychalwipf@gmail.com to collect donations.
Funeral services tentatively will be 2 p.m. Jan. 9 and will be handled by Springs Funeral Service.
