The Englewood High School girls basketball team chalked up its first victory of the season Dec. 15, besting Skyview 39-29.

But the Pirates had little time to savor the win as they were on their home court Dec. 16 against D’Evelyn then closed out the 2008 portion of the schedule on the road Dec. 19 at Evergreen.

The court will be empty after the Evergreen game as the school is closed for the holidays and coaches can’t officially meet with players.

Regular practices resume Jan. 5 when the students return to school and the Pirates return to action Jan. 7 at home against Jefferson and play a home game Jan. 9 against Alameda.

Englewood led most of the way in the low-scoring Dec. 15 game against Skyview. The Pirates had a 12-10 advantage at halftime, widened the gap slightly in the third quarter then cemented their first win of the season in the final period by outscoring the Wolverines, 17-13.

Lindsay led the Pirates in scoring with 10 points, including a one-for-one night from beyond the three-point arc. Lauren Watson scored seven points, hitting five-for-five from the free throw line.

Brittany Aldridge had seven points, Ariel Herrera had four points and teammate Bree Reil score two points.
