Chamber offers all-inclusive holiday party
By Tom Munds
The Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce will roll out the welcome mat, extending an invitation for all Englewood merchants to attend its annual holiday party.
“We are organizing an event and we want all members of the Englewood business community, whether or not they are chamber members, to join us for the holiday party,” said Randy Penn, chamber board of directors vice president. “We have several restaurants providing food and we are getting a lot of donations for our silent auction. We expect it will be a fun event so we hope a lot of people will join us.”
The free event will be from 5-8 p.m. Dec. 12 at AlexanCityCenter, 801 Englewood Parkway.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to peggy@myenglewoodchamber.com.
Englewood’s chamber of commerce dates back decades to when local supporters spearheaded to bring the organization back to the community as the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce in 1984.
More than a year ago, the chamber fell on hard times. But local merchants brought it out of hibernation, hiring Michael Morton as the executive director.
“We are looking to get the chamber rolling again,” Penn said. “For one thing, [there is] a new chamber Web site at www.yourgreaterenglewoodchamber.com. “The new Web site will be on display at the holiday party as we demonstrate how to navigate and get to the information. Our tentative calendar also includes reintroducing monthly business workshops, restarting our Women in Business group and once again honoring business at our chamber’s gala. We also are beginning to make plans for another major community event, Englewood Days. The date hasn’t been set but early planning is under way.”
