Downtown event chance for family fun

Downtown Monument’s streets are ready once again to fill with people during Small Town Christmas Dec. 5 and 6.

Dec. 5, the town of Monument’s Christmas tree will be lit to the sounds of the Tri-Lakes Chapel Youth Choir singing carols at Limbach Park at 4:30 p.m. following cookies and punch at Town Hall at 4 p.m.

A tradition for more than 10 years, the event will include many staples such as crafts at town hall as well as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at the Limbach Park band shell.

“It’s a wholesome, enjoyable, fun day for families and single people,” said director of downtown development Lucy McGuire.

“No money is required to have a great day.”

For those who do want to shop, the downtown stores will be open and ready to give personal attention to customers.

“It should be a great, festive day,” she said. “These are the memories children keep all their lives.”

The downtown business community’s Christmas gift to the larger community will include the following activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 6:

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be at the Limbach Park band shell between 10 a.m. and noon weather permitting, otherwise it will be in the Chapala Building.

Children’s Holiday Crafts will be at Monument Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Christmas open house and champagne and sparkling wine-tasting at Second Street Art Market and Wine Bar.

Bella Art & Frame will have lively libations, tempting treats and holiday savings on anything red or green.

Hayrides and carolers will be at the Gallery Center through the day.

Toys 4 Fun is offering a gift to every child who stops by.

At 2-Watts Creative kids can make Christmas ornaments for free, plus 15 percent off custom hand or footprints on ceramic pieces.

Holiday open house featuring Christmas decorations and refreshments at Bella Casa.

Margo’s on the Alley is hosting a Christmas open house with refreshments.

A trunk show featuring Darlene Armstrong will be at Santa Fe Trail Jewelry.

Local authors, Patty Ross, Amy Larson and Peggy Swager will sign books at Covered Treasures from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be hot cider and cookies throughout the day at Activecare Therapeutics and Active Tails Therapy.

Holiday Fantasies is serving refreshments and featuring their Christmas villages.

Culinary tastings and warm beverages will be at High Country Home & Garden from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Interior Resources in Style is serving spiced treats and hosting an art exhibit.

Miniature donkeys at Monumental Toys and Miniatures, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Gillard Quadruplets’ Crescendo String Quartet at Wisdom Tea House, 2 to 4 p.m.

Reindeer and music at Front Street Square through the day.

The Love Shop will host wildlife photographer Connie Sullivan from 10 a.m. to noon.

Heart and Hand/The Bead Corner will be serving cookies and hosting a trunk show featuring three local jewelry artists. Children can make bracelets.

Abundant Life Church will perform “Bethlehem Revisited,” a living nativity with live animals from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on demand.
