County seeks victims assistance volunteers

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Program is seeking volunteers for the 2009 Victim Assistance Training Academy.
Volunteers are trained to provide crisis intervention and short-term support to crime victims and other individuals involved in traumatic events. They also are educated on victim rights, victim compensation and case status.
Training will take run January through April. The program is spread out over 10 Saturdays for a total of 50 hours.
Additional monthly meetings and training will take place, following initial training.
Trainees will sign up for either two 12-hour weekday shift or two 24-hour weekend shifts.
Applicants are required to submit to a background investigation including an integrity, polygraph examination and fingerprint clearance. Successful applicants are required to attend all trainings.
