Fire Station stays put

Castle Pines North won’t be getting a new fire station. The Directors of South Metro Fire Rescue decided Nov. 13 to table further discussion of moving Station 36 to a site at Monarch Boulevard and Castle Pines Parkway, under consideration since spring of this year. The station will stay in its current location, just west of I-25 on Castle Pines Parkway.
South Metro’s directors understand that while a new station would have improved response time to new developments in the northwest section of Castle Pines North, the expense of a new station cannot be justified in questionable economic times. The cost/benefit analysis, coupled with significant opposition from the new city of Castle Pines North and homeowners surrounding the proposed site, made deferment of the station a deliberate choice, said board chairman Pete Webb. “South Metro will continue to provide the best service possible from the current location of Station 36,” said Webb.
At this time there are no plans to build a second fire station in the Castle Pines area as there is not sufficient fire and rescue call volume to justify the construction, equipment and staffing costs. In fact, South Metro is now taking steps to dispose of land acquired two years ago along Monarch Boulevard and Hidden Pointe for a station.
“We want to thank the many citizens who have come forward with their concerns and comments over the past year. It’s great to know so many people are interested in the quality of their emergency services,” said Fire Chief Dan Qualman.
