Vet tribute sees light of day
By Robyn Lydick
Residents can see the first physical representation of the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument at the Eastridge recreation center.
One scaled down wall from the current design illustrates the proportions of the monument.
The monument committee partnered with the Highlands Ranch Community Association to display the mock monument wall in the Eastridge lobby.
Plans call for 12 permanent monument walls located at the veterans monument site in Civic Green Park next to the Highlands Ranch Library.
The walls will hold dedication tiles honoring veterans and active military members.
Tiles are a form of fundraising along with general donations, and a cultural festival Sept. 7.
The European Festival brought Polish, Russian, Hungarian and other veterans from the former Soviet bloc together to support the monument.
As of Sept. 9, the committee has raised $106,743. The monument is expected to cost $200,000.
For more information about the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument, to purchase a tax-deductible dedication tile, or to make a tax-deductible donation, contact Marsha Sliter at 720-240-4931, or at msliter@highlandsranch.org.
