Dueling pianos, karaoke set Potter's apart, owner says

A new eatery is drawing interest from Parker residents looking for a sensible alternative to the humdrum chain restaurant experience.

Potter's Mainstreet Grille, which occupies space once used by Parker Station Grille and Brewing Co. in downtown Parker, opened its kitchen to local diners and a stage to karaoke enthusiasts March 14. Principal owner Herb Lee and manager Scott Potter said they are doing all they can to make their grille stand out in a sea of chain restaurants.

"We don't want to have the chain feel. We want customers to hang out and that's why we have the lounge," Potter said.

The martini lounge includes a number of cushy couches and chairs where patrons can relax with a drink and visit with friends at the end of the workday. Another section of the grille has the atmosphere of a sports bar, complete with four 42-inch and two 50-inch plasma televisions. For those seeking a casual, relaxing meal, the dining area offers all that can be desired, including a full menu with a variety of American cuisine.

"We are the non-chain restaurant in town because we have more homemade items, like dressings, desserts and soups," Lee said. "We like to think that will separate us as much as anything."

Potter, who began his career in the restaurant business 13 years ago as a cook, said his favorite item on the menu is the Blazing Italian Melt, a blend of provolone cheese, ham and pepperoni between two slices of garlic cheese bread. The dish is served with a side of marinara sauce and a choice of fries, coleslaw or salad.

Lee recommends a smoked gouda and sausage platter along with one of the homemade soups, like New England clam chowder, for an appetizer. He suggests following it with a juicy 12-ounce prime rib dinner for an affordable $15.95.

Lee is hoping a selection of deli sandwiches loaded with turkey, tuna and other favorites will gain a following. "Parker doesn't have that niche filled yet," he said.

An extended happy hour, which is actually eight hours long, is sure to please those who enjoy alcoholic beverages at a low price. All drinks, except for shots, are half-price between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The restaurant can accommodate 300 people inside and 50 more can be seated on the outdoor patio. Karaoke is offered on Thursday and Saturday nights, with a dueling piano show sandwiched in between every Friday.

Potter's Mainstreet Grille is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day of the week. For more information, call 303-840-4549.
