Mildred Graves
Mildred S. Graves, 92, formerly of Aurora, Glenwood Springs and Castle Rock, died Feb. 1 at Heritage Club at Greenwood Village.
A funeral service was Tuesday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 8485 E. Dry Creek Road, Centennial. Interment was at Bear Canon Cemetery in Sedalia following the funeral services. The Rev. Merrie Need officiated.
Born Lena Mildred Stewart on April 24, 1912, in Castle Rock, she was the daughter of Douglas Noel and Selena Jay (Ayres) Stewart. She graduated from Centennial High School in Pueblo in June 1929 and Colorado State University in June 1957.
Graves received a bachelor of science degree and master's degree at the University of Denver, graduating in August 1964. She was a teacher/counselor at Glenwood Springs and a teacher at the Opportunity School in Denver and Wheat Ridge High School.
On June 10, 1932, she married Edward Reid Graves Sr. in Castle Rock. Mr. Graves preceded her in death on March 15, 1987.
Graves was a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Centennial and was former member of Christ's Episcopal Church in Castle Rock and St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Glenwood Springs. She was a member of P.E.O., Eastern Star, Delta Delta Delta, Delta Kappa Gamma and served on the Colorado Vocational Association Board and the Colorado Home Economics Association.
Mrs. Graves is also preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Stewart.
Mrs. Graves is survived by her children, Edward Reid Graves Jr. and his wife Elaine of Hudson, Eleanor Graves Hubbard and her husband Ken of Cherry Hills Village, and Lawrence Stewart Graves and his wife Marie of Denver.
She's also survived by her sister Shirley Stewart Uhran and her husband John of Bakersfield, Calif., and also by 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
