Restaurant has new take on home-based business
A new restaurant in Parker is serving up home-made country-American style food, using some recipes that are three generations old.

Backyard Country Cooking, at 10981 S. Parker Road in the Safeway shopping center, opened its doors March 1.
Owner Sue Foster has the help of her son, John, and mother, Sally, in making sure the restaurant is a success.
General manager Jon Foster said his grandmother came to Parker from New Jersey just to decorate the restaurant and add some of her family recipes to the menu.
"The decor really has a homey-feel to it. It doesn't look like you are walking into your office cafeteria," John said.
John said his grandmother contributed recipes for French onion soup and meatloaf. In addition, customers can order all-American favorites such as country-fried steak and mashed potatoes, or a juicy, half-pound hamburger.
Daily specials like lemon-peppered chicken are on the menu along with Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, various types of seafood, and a low-carb menu featuring grilled fish or a no-bread burger.
"We are still trying to figure out what to add to our menu based on customer feedback," John said.
When asked how he wants the customer to feel as they are leaving, John simply said "full."
If diners are not full after their large-portion entrees, Backyard Country Cooking offers a dessert menu with homemade peach cobbler, brownie sundaes and cheesecake.
The Fosters say they run a family-oriented restaurant, offering a kids' menu complete with chicken nuggets, grilled cheese and macaroni and cheese.
John said people might be more drawn to their restaurant because it is not part of a chain, giving it a more cozy, home atmosphere.
Backyard Country Cooking is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays.
