Clara Turner, 96, died March 10 at Castle Rock Care Center.
Memorial services were Saturday in Castle Rock.
Born Oct. 30, 1906, west of Larkspur, she was the daughter of Jay C. and Lucy E. Swinney McClure. She attended Lone Tree School on West Plum Creek and one year of high school at Monument. As a schoolgirl, she either rode or drove a horse and buggy taking her two younger brothers with her.
Mrs. Turner never finished school because she returned to the family farm where she was needed.
She married Wallace Turner, June 26, 1927, at her parent's home on West Plum Creek.
Mrs. Turner thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, she gentled several of her saddle horses and enjoyed working with and riding horses all her life. She worked hard all her life working both on the ranch and keeping house. She had a large garden and did a lot of canning for vegetables and meat.
Mrs. Turner was a member of the Friendly Larks Home Demonstration Club for a few years. She and her husband were one of several couples who got together twice a month to play cards.
Mrs. Turner enjoyed backpacking trips into the Lost Park area and the mountains around the Fort Collins and Loveland areas where the family owned some mountain property. She also enjoyed exploring or blazing new trails. She rode horses up until she was 92, never letting her arthritis keep her away from what she cherished.
Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by brothers Clifford, and Kenneth and his wife, Viola. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Betty Lee Prince; grandchildren Frank, Randy Prince and Sandy Campagnola and her husband, Gene; great-grandsons T.J., Chad Campagnola and his wife, Marcie and one great great-grandson, Justin, all of the Larkspur area; sister-in-law Mary Anderson of California; and brother-in-law Douglas Turner and his wife Anna May, of Idaho.
