The first phase of a master plan is now complete for managing Cherry Creek as it flows north into increasingly urban areas of Douglas County.
The Urban Drainage Flood Control District is devising the plan, and members of the group meet at 7 tonight at Parker Town Hall to listen to public input concerning the creek.
"We have just completed phase A of the master plan," said Ben Urbonas, an engineer with the district and director of the master plan project.
"We are seeking public feedback," he said. "We specifically want to focus on problems we have identified [concerning Cherry Creek]."
Those problems include significant impacts to the creek such as an exposed sewer line near where the creek crosses the line at Douglas and Arapahoe counties, creek channel degradation near two bridges spanning the tributary, proposed construction of two more bridges, proposed extension of North Pinery Parkway, the encroachment of Stroh Ranch into the creek's floodplain, proposed construction such as Broncos Parkway, and migration of the creek's channel because of low water flow, Urbonas said.
In developing the master plan, the district is consulting with Douglas and Arapahoe counties, Centennial, Aurora and Parker, he said.
The district manages the creek and its drainage basin from Cherry Creek State Park in Arapahoe County south to Scott Road, south of Parker, Urbonas said.
