The building fund expenditure for 2001-02 is budgeted for a 90.3 percent increase compared with 2000-01. Because of the construction of new schools and expansions and remodeling, the 2001-02 expenditures amount to $51,669,800 against 2000-01 figures of $27,145,290.
The child-care fund will show an increase of 20.2 percent to $4.7 million from $3.9 million. More and extended preschool programs are to be added.
Pupil activity fund increases are budgeted at 31.7 percent from $5.05 million to $6.65 million. This is based on an estimated 37,070 students compared to 35,920 last year.
As a direct result of the increased number of students expected, the nutritional services fund will jump 14.6 percent to $7.6 million from a previous year budget of $6.6 million.
When all the building funds, capital reserves, debt services, insurance and other funds are totaled, the budget amounts to $122,826,826 in expenditures for the miscellaneous items or a 38.6 percent increase compared with 2000-01.
The general fund for revenues; expenses for staffing; benefits and operations will be reviewed by the board and the whole budget approved at the May 15 regular meeting.
In other board actions:
* The purchase of playground equipment was approved for Prairie Crossing, Heritage, Sand Creek and Eldorado elementary schools. Because of short delivery time and meeting of specifications, the second-lowest bid was accepted from Recreation Plus at $197,748.
New Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch will have music furniture and equipment furnished by Wenger Corp. The company is the sole manufacturer and supplier of the music stands, risers and chairs needed. The school district will purchase the items directly from the manufacturer at a cost of $88,394.
Prices were approved for the rental of school district buildings for nonschool activities. Classrooms will rent for $12 per hour for community activities and $23 per hour for commercial activities. Charges for auditorium usage are $60 per hour and $140 respectively. A gymnasium in a high school or middle school can be rented for $46 per hour for community and $92 for commercial uses.
Prices for facilities vary by size, and no equipment is included. The use of custodial monitoring and kitchen personnel is not included but costs $21, $10 and $21 per hour extra.
Playing fields also can be rented from the school district. Nonprofit groups will pay $9 per hour and for-profit groups will pay $18 per hour. The new fees were approved by the board of education Tuesday.
The next board meeting is 7 p.m., May 1 at 620 Wilcox St., Castle Rock.
