Littleton offers open enrollment
As the Douglas County School District continues to experience a population boom at all grade levels, Littleton Public Schools will continue to open its schools to Douglas students. A meeting from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday will inform Douglas County residents of this option.
As the Douglas County School District continues to experience a population boom at all grade levels, Littleton Public Schools will continue to open its schools to Douglas students. A meeting from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday will inform Douglas County residents of this option.
About 100 Douglas students took advantage of the agreement with Littleton during 2000/2001 school year. Once a Douglas County child is enrolled in Littleton, that child is guaranteed acceptance at the next level.
Unlike Douglas County, Littleton is a "maturing" community. More Littleton households are empty nests, whereas Douglas County nests are more likely to be full of children.
Seven new elementary schools, two new middle schools, and two new high schools are planned by 2005 across Douglas County. Multiple existing schools are slated for renovation and expansion work. The district expects 2,550 new students every year.
All Littleton Public Schools operate on a traditional calendar. All Littleton students start the school year in August and finish in June.
Douglas County schools are full year-round with multiple tracks attending at different times of the year. The district is able to handle more students that way.
Parents who choose Littleton schools must drop their children off in the mornings at a selected Douglas County school. From there, Littleton provides transportation.
All Littleton schools offer extended day kindergarten and before- and after-school care.
Douglas County parents should call the Littleton school in which they are interested. Open enrollment will be provided on a space-available basis.
