Roads on Parker officials' 2001 wish lists

Quit smoking. Lose weight. Exercise more. These are some of the things people strive to accomplish throughout the year, ones usually made at the stroke of midnight for the new year.

But for some of the Parker Town Council members, the new year's resolutions continue from last year.

The Mayor CARES program will be among those of the old carried into the new year.

The crux of the program is to make the town a better place to live, economically, visually and socially.

Through the CARES 2001 program, Lasater wants to focus on architecture of the town through its homes and businesses, the economy, recreational activities and the safety of the residents.

Road improvements was high among the wish lists, as well.

Council members Mary Looney and Dave Aldridge said they wanted to see the completion of the road projects come together for 2001.

Looney said she wants to see the road projects proposed for 2001 start off the new year, and also would like to see the construction of the new town hall break ground.

"I'd like to see the town work together," Looney said. "I'd like to see that all operations run smoothly, businesses thriving and the town moving forward and doing great things."

One of the most important things Looney would like to accomplish for the new year, however, is to bring affordable housing to Parker.

"I'm not really in the habit of making resolutions but accessing things from day to day," she said.

Along the lines of recreational activities, councilman Dave Aldridge said he wants to be able to watch "kids play baseball at the new Salisbury Equestrian Park."

Like Looney, Aldridge doesn't make resolutions, but he said he would like to see that the town accommodate more recreational activities, such as the baseball fields at Salisbury Equestrian Park off Motsenbocker Road.

Aldridge said his wish list also includes improvements to begin at the O'Brien Park pool.

Some projects from 2000 have been carried over to 2001, such as the Lincoln Avenue extension to Pine Drive, and the Norton Property open space acquisition.

Other council members could not be reached prior to deadline.

On a lighthearted note, Aldridge laughed and said, "I would like to see that the Rockies win the World Series."
