The ongoing negotiations between Park Meadows Town Center and the Regional Transportation District about the mall joining the district is the other piece of the southeast transit puzzle.
Although negotiations have temporarily closed while the parking study commissioned by Park Meadows management is completed, both parties have indicated negotiations are not at an end.
"We are continuing to work closely with the mall and looking forward to the results of the study," said Amy Ford, public information officer for the Southeast Corridor Project.
After a period of daily negotiations a few weeks ago, RTD issued a resolution giving Park Meadows a Dec. 1 deadline to join the district or pay the costs of constructing a walkway from the light rail station to the shopping center.
Additionally, the resolution requires Park Meadows to be collecting the .6 percent RTD tax on purchases by Jan. 1.
The Southeast Corridor Project is going ahead with its plans with or without Park Meadows.
"The Southeast Corridor is going ahead with the request for final proposal, and construction teams must submit their proposals by the end of February," Ford said.
Spokesman for Park Meadows ownership, Pete Webb, Certain concerns must be resolved before Park Meadows agrees to join the district, said Pete Webb, spokesman for Park Meadows ownership.
"What is the value to our customer?" Webb asked about joining the district.
Park Meadows wants to see a service plan now with routes and service commitments spelled out, which has not been supplied, he said.
Whether the station should be placed near the center at all is another issue for resolution.
"We have serious questions about location of the station and have offered them a location alternative," Webb said.
Webb said Park Meadows is concerned with the proximity of the planned station to other stations.
"It may not be necessary to have a station at County Line," he said. "It is going to be resolved, but it is a long process and doesn't happen overnight; it will happen with deliberation and a lot of discussion.
"You have to understand, Park Meadows has paid for 100 percent of the road improvements around Park Meadows with the public improvement fee," Webb said.
The Southeast Corridor will still look at trying to accommodate Park Meadows with regard to change orders in February, if it comes into the district, Ford said.
