For an exotic spicy taste, try a new Thai food restaurant in Parker.

Joong's Thai Pan Restaurant at 10920 S. Parker Road serves authentic Thai food. It has been open about a month.

Behind the Parker Wells Fargo, the restaurant can be seen from the road.

If the restaurant doesn't draw curious visitors, the menu should entice one to try the place - and return for more.

The chicken is boned and trimmed. The spices are added to the customer's satisfaction. For those who don't eat meats, the restaurant also offers Thai-style vegetarian dishes.

The restaurant does not include MSG in the food, which is a preservative used in some foods, because some people can have allergic reactions to it. The restaurant also stays away from tropical oils, which can be high in fat and cholesterol.

The restaurant serves spicy dishes such as Phad Cra-Pao, a stir-fried dish with fresh basil fried with seasoned chili, garlic and a choice of beef, pork, chicken or shrimp.

Most of the curry dishes are of a spicy nature, except for the pineapple curry, which is of a milder nature.

The owners, Phil and Noopin Gates, pride themselves on keeping the food authentic and fresh, Phil Gates said.

His wife has been in the restaurant and food-service business for 25 years.

As an airline flight attendant for many years, Noopin Gates has traveled to Hawaii and other places and has tasted food from many other countries.

A native of Thailand, Noopin Gates wanted to bring the food from her homeland to Parker.

The Gates' plan to expand the restaurant as soon as it gets on its feet, hiring more help and bringing in more equipment to provide well-rounded service for its customers.

Now the family is running the business.

"We want all Thai people to work here, and others as well," Phil Gates said. "It's just us. It's our first restaurant."

Joong's Thai Pan Restaurant is open from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. It's closed Sundays.

For information, call (720) 851-8559 or stop by to dine in or for takeout. Delivery services are expected to be available soon.
